- The partners’ discussion about how to further improve IMPACT educational material/webinars
- The implications & Recommendations for Policy Makers & EC
- The IMPACT website
- The ESTIMATE network
- The IMPACT Dissemination and
- The IMPACT project Evaluation.
On 16th of July 2019, the IMPACT Project Symposium was held at the 15th European Congress of Sport & Exercise Psychology organized by the FEPSAC at Münster, Germany from 15 to 19 July 2019. The symposium was under the title: “Identifying and motivating youth who mostly need physical activity (IMPACT): A European project”. This symposium focused on the promotion of motivation and physical activity (PA) of inactive European pupils through school Physical Education (PE). Presentations are made by researchers of a large European consortium that received funding from the Erasmus+ sport program to create tools and educational material for PE teachers and to provide evidence of a good practice focused on IMPACT. The aim of this symposium was to present key outputs of the IMPACT project, including (1) the tools and strategies of the IMPACT project, (2) evidence supporting construct validity and cultural invariance of various measures related to motivation and motivational outcomes, (3) cross-European findings stemming from these measures including objective measures of PA, (4) the key components of the educational material for PE teachers and its delivery process, and (5) the network that is under development to promote IMPACT across Europe. Existing partners include Universities (Thessaly-coordinator, Barcelona, Birmingham, Grenoble, Hacettepe, Padova), educational authorities (Ankara Ministry of Education, Greek Ministry of Education, Greek Institute of Educational Policy) and PE teacher associations at European (EUEPA) and national (German, Italian) level. Presenters will discuss the development of a roadmap for the promotion of PA through PE with the symposium participants.
The main goals of IMPACT Project are the following: i) To identify and motivate those children with low levels of physical activity (PA), ii) to train Physical Education teachers in order to promote PA and iii) to increase children and adolescents’ PA through Physical Education classes (PA) in schools. To test the effectiveness of the program, approximately 2000 students, aged 10-18 years, will be evaluated in a large number of parameters that affect their PA levels before and after the implementation of the intervention through the whole school year.
The results of this project will be used to develop a European roadmap for the diagnosis of inactivity across schools and vulnerable youth in Europe and a network of stakeholders interested in the adoption of concerted actions to promote sport involvement and PA for inactive pupils.
